“Delving into the past is intended to reinforce national and personal existence in the present. In Bonneh’s works, this is where the traditional myth of Zionism arises, uniting with the era of ‘Altneuland’. The biblical subjects in his paintings represent the past, while his village scenes represent the future. In his rural scenes, Bonneh re-creates the idyll of ‘each man under his grape vine’ – the state of the nation that is yet to come.”
